Trumpeter Freddie Gavita above captured just recently in this video in performance with the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra is to lead his own quartet at next months Hampstead Arts Festival, appearing on 15 November at this year’s running, the jazz element of which also forms part of the 2014 London Jazz Festival. Gavita’s quartet in question finds the trumpeter performing in St John’s Downshire Hill joined in an all-acoustic setting by Tom Cawley just announced (the pianist known for his work with the trio Curios and more widely, Peter Gabriel), and alongside the Golden trio’s bassist Calum Gourlay and drummer James Maddren. Exactly a week later on 22 November, again in St John’s Downshire Hill, the duo of pianist Gwilym Simcock, a former Mercury nominee who released the duo album Reverie at Schloss Elmau and chamber jazz work Instrumation earlier this year, and ex-Soft Machine guitar legend John Etheridge, also appear in the festival’s jazz strand.
