Sclavis

French clarinettist Louis Sclavis, along with Sources guitarist Gilles Coronado and pianist Benjamin Moussay, joined by Iranian classical percussionist Kevyan Chemirani, appear on Sclavis' latest album Silk and Salt Melodies set to be released later this month. Nothing if not eclectic Sclavis has recorded tributes to baroque composer Rameau, and painter Ernest Pignon-Ernest, among others, in the past but resists the choice of an overriding concept, although the ECM album explores notions of an “imaginary, nomadic, Central Asian route,  journeying away from and back to jazz, addressing the idea of emigration in world history,” Sclavis has commented. Recorded at French studio La Buissonne near Avignon in March this year this latest album comes three years after Sources and is released in the UK/Ireland on 25 August.
