Dr John

On Ske-Dat-De-Dat... The Spirit of Satch where Dr John pays tribute to Louis Armstrong, a new album to be released in the UK in September, the New Orleans piano legend doffs his cap in inimitable fashion to the ultimate Crescent City jazz icon. “He’s the most famous guy that ever came out of my neighbourhood,” Dr John says.

On this latest jazz tribute of Dr John's Mac is joined by Bonnie Raitt on ‘I’ve Got the World on a String’, Ledisi and the McCrary Sisters providing gospel input on ‘Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen’, R&B singer Anthony Hamilton on ‘Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child’, Shemekia Copeland on ‘Sweet Hunk O’ Trash,’ and the Blind Boys of Alabama on ‘What a Wonderful World’ and ‘Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams.’

Trumpeter Nicholas Payton guests on ‘What a Wonderful World’, Terence Blanchard on ‘Mack the Knife’ and ‘Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams’ while their fellow trumpeters Arturo Sandoval, Wendell Brunious, and James Andrews also feature with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band on board as well. Ske-Dat-De-Dat was co-produced by Dr John and trombonist Sarah Morrow, and comes swiftly on from the excellent very bluesy Locked Down.
