ext month sees the US release of My Old Friend by jazz singer Al Jarreau, honouring the legacy of keyboardist George Duke who died last year. My Old Friend: Celebrating George Duke features guest appearances by Gerald Albright, Dianne Reeves, Marcus Miller, Lalah Hathaway, Jeffrey Osborne, Kelly Price, and Dr. John. Duke also appears on the track ‘Bring Me Joy.’ Jarreau and Duke knew each firstly in the mid-1960s when Jarreau was working as a social worker in San Francisco, a period in his life when the singer was making his way to working in music full-time. He sat in with Duke at a Sunday jam session in local spot the Half Note and Jarreau then joined Duke's trio playing the club for three years.
