Alison Rayner

A live album recorded at London jazz club the Vortex with Alison Rayner joined by drummer Buster Birch, guitarist Deirdre Cartwright, saxophonist Diane McLoughlin, and pianist Steve Lodder mostly made up of double bassist Rayner’s originals the exception an arrangement of Lennon and McCartney’s ‘Fixing a Hole’, from Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Jazz-rock fusion, the influence of the Beatles, Spanish Moorish flavours, bebop, New Orleans grooves, a hymn, and soul-jazz all play their part here on a laidback, warm set. ARQ play St Ives Jazz Club, in Cornwall tomorrow (24 June) following an appearance at the Palladium club in Bideford tonight. August is launched at the Vortex, London on 2 July.
