Nigel
They’re making plans for Nigel at this month’s Limavady jazz and blues festival in no uncertain fashion as Nigel Mooney no less is set to top the bill. It's a year on from the release of the guitarist’s bluesy second album The Bohemian Mooney, a record that featured the core band of pianist Johnny Taylor, bassist Dan Bodwell, and drummer Dominic Mullan, with guests including Georgie Fame on a couple of tracks and the Irish jazz icon Louis Stewart, who played rhythm guitar on three tracks. Picking up plenty of plaudits and airplay the album was named Irish Times jazz album of the year. Mooney plays the guitar like Kenny Burrell at times, no mean feat, and has been in hot demand since the album’s release, topping the bill at bijou Cork festival Ballydehob recently and making the Saturday night scene at Berts jazz bar in Belfast regularly. Also for Limavady are Ronnie Greer, John Trotter, Rick Swann, and Rab McCullough.
