Escreet trio

The trio of English-born US-based avant garde jazz pianist John Escreet is joined by saxophonist Evan Parker, who celebrated his 70th birthday with a concert at Kings Place at the weekend, on new Sunnyside album Sound, Space and Structures. Escreet is with bassist John Hébert, and drummer Tyshawn Sorey (who’s on the faculty at Banff this year). The record is set to be released in the UK/Ireland on 5 May. Escreet’s latest album Sabotage and Celebration (Whirlwind) was released last autumn. The new work comes in nine parts, the hook-up with Evan Parker stemming from a September 2013 Stone residency in New York when Parker invited the Escreet trio, pictured above, to perform with him. A recording session was then arranged a week after their performance together which forms the music on this new album.
