Chambers is also on the Columbia campus-recorded quartet set from earlier in 1965 with Giuffre, pianist Don Friedman, and Barre Phillips (the Californian bassist who is also on New Thing at Newport). Giuffre’s widow Juanita has given her blessing to the release. The Jimmy Giuffre 3 & 4 New York Concerts will come out on the livery of new label Elemental, whose producer Zev Feldman, known for his work in reissuing the extraordinary ‘lost’ Wes Montgomery album Echoes of Indiana Avenue, has partnered with a Barcelona distributor for the June release.

• A new band co-led by the trumpeter Dave Douglas and reeds player Chet Doxas and featuring former Giuffre 3 bassist Steve Swallow releases Riverside themed partly around the timeless music of clarinettist/saxophonist Giuffre this month.
