Ten semi-finalists have been chosen for this year’s Young Scottish Jazz Musician competition, judged by trombonist Chris Greive, saxophonist Martin Kershaw, and guitarist Graeme Stephen.

Organised by the Scottish Jazz Federation, the development organisation for jazz in Scotland, the semi-finalists are: 22-year-old Glasgow drummer John Lowrie; 20-year-old Glasgow guitarist Joe Williamson, 20-year-old Edinburgh trumpeter Sean Gibbs; 16-year-old Dollar pianist Fergus McCreadie; 23-year-old Dollar drummer Jonathan Silk; 19-year-old Paisley drummer Neil Paton; 20-year-old Perth alto saxophonist Helena Kay; 17-year-old South Lanarkshire trumpeter Christos Stylianides; 23-year-old Glasgow drummer Mark Scobbie; and 15-year-old Dumfries drummer Euan Leslie.

The semi-finalists will take part in a mentoring session to be held over a weekend in mid-April, with tutors taking part to include Chris Greive and Jasper Høiby.
