Whirlwind Recordings has signed pianist Simon Purcell. The head of jazz at Trinity-Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London Purcell has recorded his first album for the label titled Red Circle to be released in early-June. On the album Purcell is joined by Partisans saxophonist Julian Siegel, Township Comets trumpeter Chris Batchelor, Printmakers bassist Steve Watts, and Partisans drummer Gene Calderazzo, with jazz singer Liane Carroll guesting on one track. Tracks, all Purcell compositions, are ‘Spirit Level’, ‘Red Circle (Enchantress)’, ‘Minos’, ‘Answers for Job’, ‘Pandora’, ‘Dark Night’, ‘Ithaca’, ‘Maestros and Musos’, and ‘Ithaca (Trio).’
