Deuchar

The Tempo mid-to-late 1950s period of cult jazz trumpeter and big band arranger, the Scot, Jimmy Deuchar (1930-1993), has just been reissued by Acrobat records. The release had a street date originally for mid-January but according to the label's distributor Discovery a pressing fault caused delays and copies only arrived for distribution “a couple of days ago.” The two-CD set, titled The Complete Tempo Recordings 1955-58, captures one of the key players of the period who first made his mark with the Dankworth Seven in the early part of the 50s here in his prime on a series of originals plus versions of sought-after material by the giants of jazz including Miles Davis, Bud Powell, and Horace Silver, with Deuchar joined by the significant modern jazz luminaries of the day on the British scene including Tony Crombie, Victor Feldman, Tubby Hayes, Derek Humble, Phil Seamen, and Stan Tracey.
