Some of Wynton Marsalis’ best work on record apart from his Black Codes Columbia period has been on Blue Note (Live at the House of Tribes, From the Plantation to the Penitentiary) and this summer on tour Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton will celebrate Blue Note’s 75th anniversary with a string of English dates and a Scottish one playing music from jazz masters associated with the label including compositions by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Horace Silver and Bud Powell.
Dates are the Harrogate festival, Harrogate on 20 June; Corn Exchange, Cambridge (21); Anvil, Basingstoke (22); Bridgewater Hall, Manchester (23); Symphony Hall, Birmingham (24); Colston Hall, Bristol (26); and Usher Hall, Edinburgh (27).
• Later, on 30 June, JaLCO with Wynton and the Sachal Jazz Ensemble from Pakistan will, in a separate presentation, play the Barbican in London.
