FlutterAfter last week’s news of a new Kenny Wheeler recording session for ECM, looking ahead to next month there's now a reissue sighting of Flutter By, Butterfly. Recorded this time in Milan in May 1987 over two days and produced by Giovanni Bonandrini for his label Soul Note and released the following year the album features opener ‘Everybody’s Song But My Own’, one of the trumpeter-composer’s most cherished compositions. Other tracks are ‘We Salute The Night’, ‘Miold Man’, playfully named title track ‘Flutter By, Butterfly’, ‘Gigolo’, and ‘The Little Fella’. Wheeler on flugel and cornet is joined by the great bassist Dave Holland, pianist John Taylor and Stan Sulzmann on saxophones/flute, and US drummer Billy Elgart, one of whose claims to fame includes appearing on Paul Bley With Gary Peacock, one of the small number of ECM albums recorded long before the German label actually began!
Released on vinyl and CD on 10 March through Harmonia Mundi
