Wednesday 5 March sees the opening of an exhibition at the Barbican’s Music Library in London called All That Jazz: The Golden Age of British Popular Music.
Running until the penultimate day of April the exhibition traces what the organisers are calling the “golden age of British popular music” seen in this strand through the eyes of the Loughton-based National Jazz Archive. Posters, programmes and photos from 1919-1950 are among the exhibits recalling the playing days of Ken ‘Snakehips’ Johnson and Humphrey Lyttelton among many more, stretching back even to the first stirrings of jazz in London with the first appearance of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band.
