Herbie Hancock will deliver a series of six lectures beginning on 3 February on ‘The Ethics of Jazz’ in his capacity as newly appointed Charles Eliot Norton Professor of Poetry at Harvard University. The lectures will include the great jazz pianist and composer’s thoughts on ‘The Wisdom of Miles Davis’, ‘Breaking the Rules’, ‘Cultural Diplomacy and the Voice of Freedom,’ and ‘Innovation and New Technologies’ among their subjects. Past Norton professors have included T. S. Eliot, Igor Stravinsky, Leonard Bernstein, and John Cage.
