That Geller Feller

Los Angeles-born saxophonist composer and arranger Herb Geller died yesterday of pneumonia at the age of 85 according to a report in Rifftides also carried by AllAboutJazz. Geller had lived in Hamburg since the 1960s. Two decades earlier Geller had played with Joe Venuti’s orchestra, and later Claude Thornhill in New York. In the late-50s he played with Benny Goodman and then in Europe was a soloist for many years with the NDR Big Band. His records include 1957’s That Geller Feller, the cover of which is pictured above, and Gypsy from two years.
