Martyna Wren

Interesting debut album The World Can Wait in prospect for early-2014 from singer Martyna Wren. Full of original pop-jazz songs by Wren and arranged by pianist John Bowman with a band including Bowman, trumpeter Reuben Fowler, and vibes player Ben Lewis. Smoky voiced, quite low toned, and vintage, Dusty Springfield-meets-Gwyneth Herbert perhaps. Here’s her moody and blue Christmas song, a cover of Peggy Lee’s ‘The Christmas Spell’ from 1949.
