African Piano

ECM is to reissue on audiophile 180g vinyl, CD, and download formats, the rare Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) album African Piano recorded in October 1969 and issued on the JAPO imprint in 1973. It was recorded at the Montmartre in Copenhagen. Thirty-nine minutes long the album features ‘Bra Joe From Kilimanjaro’, ‘Selby That the Eternal Spirit Is the Only Reality’, ‘The Moon’, ‘Xaba’, ‘Sunset in Blue’, ‘Kippy’ ‘Jabulani ­ Easter Joy’, and ‘Tintiyana’. The release date is 27 January 2014, and on the same date ECM is also to issue on vinyl and CD Gary Burton’s Seven Songs For Quartet and Chamber Orchestra recorded in 1973; Sam Rivers’ Contrasts (recorded in 1979); Miroslav Vitous’ Miroslav Vitous Group (recorded in 1980 with the bassist joined by John Surman, Kenny Kirkland, and Jon Christensen); and John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner’s Five Years Later (recorded in 1981). Also planned for a 27 January reissue is Ritual, the Dennis Russell Davies album featuring the Keith Jarrett composition ‘Ritual.’
