The Harp bar Van Morrison New Year’s Eve show in Belfast sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale. No surprise perhaps with tickets a reasonable £60 on open sale for this chance to hear Van play in a music-loving pub on a special night of the year in his home town. Van is playing the Harp with a band drawn largely from the resurgent Belfast jazz scene, with Linley Hamilton (trumpet), South Carolina-born Northern Ireland-based Dana Masters (vocals), Scott Flanigan (piano and Nord keyboards), the Dublin-based Australian Damian Evans (bass), and Steve “Dakiz” Davis (drums) for the gig, the material the band is rehearsing thought to be drawn partly from Van’s 1996 Verve album How Long Has This Been Going On? with such numbers as Sweets Edison/Jon Hendricks’ ‘Centerpiece’ a candidate for the set list. Should be a very special night.
