Here's a first look at the cover of Herbie Hancock: The Complete Columbia Album Collection 1972-1988 to be released on Monday. It's the Columbia Records and CBS/Sony Japan catalogue together at last in an accessible box or "chest" as the marketing boffins have deemed it, with a "removable lid", 28 single albums and three double-CD albums inside with each album packaged in a mini-LP CD cardboard replica of the original jacket with original artwork. There's a 200-page book, words from the unbeatable Bob Belden and much else. Here's a list of the albums collected, and their year of release. (The equivalent Miles Davis box sold out more or less immediately.) Sextant (1973), Head Hunters (1973), Dedication (1974), Thrust (1974), Death Wish original soundtrack (1974), Flood (1975), Man-Child (1975), Secrets (1976), V.S.O.P.
