Following in the footsteps of the Coltrane classic quartet pianist McCoy Tyner touring with singer José James, and Kurt Elling, whose wondrous album Dedicated To You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman was issued in 2009, the soulful Empire Music Hall singer Ken Haddock, saxophonist Meilana Gillard, whose DanaMeilana 6 album JazzNBelfast captured a city’s jazz scene on the cusp, and DanaMeilana6 pianist Scott Flanigan, with Nick Scott on bass, and Steve Davis, drums, are to perform a new interpretation of songs from the 1963 Impulse album John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman on 15 December at the Strand Arts Centre in Belfast in a show entitled My One And Only Love. It's half a century on from the album's creation in the fabled Van Gelder studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. ‘They Say It’s Wonderful’, ‘Dedicated to You’, ‘My One and Only Love’, ‘Lush Life’, ‘You Are Too Beautiful’, and ‘Autumn Serenade’, not forgetting the inspired atmosphere of the record and the musicians' timeless interpretations, continue to stimulate a new jazz generation.
