Brass Jaw won ensemble of the year and an award for innovation in their education work at the Scottish Jazz Awards last night held at Le Monde in Edinburgh. Alison Affleck won vocalist of the year and other winners were saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski (instrumentalist of the year) and pianist Euan Stevenson (emerging artist). Das Contras won in the public vote for album of the year for Highest Low, and Richard Michael won an award for services to education. Jim Mullen received a lifetime achievement award and the just retired BBC Radio 3 producer Keith Loxam received a services to jazz award. The jazz in the media award went to BBC Radio Scotland’s Jazz House programme, while the international award went to Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis. The SNJO won the Live Jazz Experience award.
