Very sad to learn of the death of Butch Warren, the Washington DC-born bassist who appeared on Herbie Hancock's debut album Takin' Off (1962) and on many Blue Note albums from 1959-67, during the Golden Age of the label, a presence on Dexter Gordon's Go! and A Swingin' Affair, and Kenny Dorham's Una Mas, among very many significant recordings. Warren disappeared from the music business for many years suffering serious health problems. He died as a result of lung cancer, according to reports in the US, passing away at a hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.
