Recognise the face? Well no, me neither. But it’s a visage we might all be getting used to next year. He’s received nearly a million views on YouTube but more to the point he’s the latest member of Pat “Fam”, adding to Pat Metheny’s Unity Band making it a five piece Group and they'll hit the Hammersmith Apollo next June. The Unity Group is the son of the Unity Band, which made its UK debut last year with Pat, Chris Potter, ex- Blanchard bassist Ben Williams, and Pat trio member Antonio Sánchez putting on one of the Missouri-man’s best small group showings in the capital in years all still on board. Metheny has the habit of introducing future stars to his band with past alumni including bass don Richard Bona and harmonica sensation Grégoire Maret. Tuscany-born and raised and now New York-based Giulio Carmassi, 32, whose face this happens to be is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and film composer who will play piano, sing and add horns apparently in the Unity Group and there’s talk of an album next year. Remember that face.
