Always a pointer to future Nordic currents in jazz and improvised music the Young Nordic Jazz Comets presentation at Trondheim later this week features a range of forward-thinking bands from across the Nordic countries. Swedes the Casey Moir Band, Bárður Reinert Poulsen Quartet from the Faroe Islands, Finns Kadi Quartet, Icelanders the Skarkali TrioPixel from Norway and Crunch House from Denmark have been chosen to appear this year.

The showcase takes place at Dokkhuset in Trondheim on Thursday. The Young Nordic Jazz Comets started in 2000 and is now an annual competition based around the idea of creating a club night/venue event for young aspiring jazz talents at one of the key jazz venues in one of the Nordic countries each year. The 2013 Young Nordic Jazz Comets is part of the European Jazz Network annual meeting also taking place in Trondheim this week.
