Cardiff-based Edition records are poised to release Oddarrang’s new album In Cinema. It’s the Finnish prog-jazz and alt.rock-influenced five piece’s third album to date, their first since 2011’s Cathedral. Led by ex-Tomasz Stańko drummer composer Olavi Louhivuori, Oddarrang, that’s Louhivuori plus guitarist Lasse Sakara, cellist Osmo Ikonen, trombonist Ilmari Pohjola, and bassist Lasse Lindgren, turned heads with a barnstorming Clore Ballroom appearance later broadcast on Radio 3 during the opening weekend of the 2012 London Jazz Festival. The band return for dates this month with shows at Band on the Wall, Manchester on 12 September; Kings Place, London (13 Sept); Greenham Arts Centre Newbury (14 Sept); and Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff (15 Sept); to be followed by a Belfast Festival at Queen’s appearance in the Elmwood Hall on 22 October in a double bill with Danish New Melodicists, Girls in Airports. In Cinema is released for downloard on 30 September, and as a CD on 7 October. Oddarrang above left
