There’s a stellar line-up for leap day Jazz in the Round at the Cockpit.

What’s in store: hard boppers Empirical, on tremendous form playing station to station this week culminating in a big Saturday night finale down by Old Street just two nights beforehand; the inimitable Django Bates, solo, pride of place; and the highlight of the evening in prospect for many: a free improv set from heavyweights Alexander Hawkins, Black Top’s Orphy Robinson, the great Evan Parker, and Dinosaur’s Laura Jurd

It’s a fond farewell to Jazz on 3, the most revered, admired, stimulating and adventurous jazz radio programme on BBC Radio 3 over many years bowing out in some style with a show at The Cockpit where the show’s presenter Jez Nelson has been DJ-ing and presenting the cream of new bands there on a regular basis at the theatre in Marylebone since 2012.
