Still to be announced officially by BBC Radio 3, marlbank understands that the new Monday night jazz show on the national network station, the successor to the long running Jazz on 3, is to be called Jazz Now. Its presenter will be saxophonist/MC Soweto Kinch, above.

It is very good news indeed for anyone who knows Soweto Kinch both as a performer, first breaking on to the scene with the Mercury-nominated Conversations with the Unseen thirteen years ago, and as a broadcaster. Kinch has worked with the show’s producers Unique for Radio 3 jazz programming before, and his radio track record also includes a homage to his belovèd Birmingham, broadcast on Radio 4. His new trio, featuring the former Betty Carter and Joshua Redman drummer Gregory Hutchinson, play gigs this spring that include a Cheltenham Jazz Festival appearance.
