Released in late-October City Folk is the new album from the crack quartet of sax star Joshua Redman, extravagantly talented pianist Aaron ‘Arborescence'’ Parks, gifted bassist Matt Penman, and highly rated Charles Lloyd quartet drummer Eric Harland.
City Folk is described by the band’s label Nonesuch as “story-based composition” at work and the disc arrives three years on from the Farmers’ eponymous debut.
‘Two Steps’, a Matt Penman tune, with its uncannily Mehldau-esque laconic feel, is the opening track.
