The Billy Higgins tailors in Limerick

Today the Limerick jazz festival continues and by tomorrow will have concluded. It’s been grand.

Looking ahead to next month, and a big anniversary of global significance which is the 60th of the classic The Shape of Jazz To Come by Ornette Coleman on which Billy Higgins [1936-2001] was the drummer, the quartet completed by Don Cherry and Charlie Haden.

The anniversary in one standout concert is marked by Tony Kofi on 8 October. Kofi played with Ornette on For the Love of Ornette towards the end of Ornette’s life.
