New York-based guitarist Isaac Darche here with tenor saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, pianist Glenn Zaleski, bassist Desmond White, and drummer E.J. Strickland on a new studio album released three years on from Boom-Baptism.

Tune selections include an original that playfully namechecks Kurt Rosenwinkel; the standards ‘You Stepped Out of a Dream’ and ‘Nobody Else But Me’; and a treatment of Wayne Shorter’s ‘Ana Maria’.

Darche, who in his early-thirties and who grew up in California studying under Kenny Burrell at UCLA, says in the sleeve notes referring to his own songs: “With these songs I try to write melodies that are memorable and singable, yet use uncommon rhythmic and harmonic phrases. The music is actually very difficult, but everyone in the band made it sound easy.”
