A pulsing, smokingly compulsive listen of a jazz and hip hop double album from the ex-Robert Glasper drum icon, above, and a big cast, mostly in those Experiment days known admiringly certainly by the fans as Chris or simply ‘Daddy’ Dave, the small cast of vocalists and rappers, Bilal, Kendra Foster and Shafiq Husayn among them, add another layer and yet the drums rule and hypnotise to trance dance. Pick and choose your favourite rappers contained on Chris Dave and the Drumhedz but primarily it lands as catnip for drummers and appreciators of the art as Dave is widely and properly thought of as one of the finest jazz drummers to emerge on the planet since Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts and his fun ideas here and signature sound do not disappoint.
