A live album from the Village Vanguard in New York, where more classic jazz albums have been recorded in the history of jazz is new, from Steve Coleman and the Five Elements in August. This was recorded in May 2017.

The issuing label Pi say the release is alto sax great Coleman’s “first live release in over 15 years.” Live on record he can be spectacular, eg the Hot Brass, Paris tapes are vital.

The line up: Coleman on the alto saxophone; Jonathan Finlayson, trumpet; Miles Okazaki, guitar; Anthony Tidd on bass guitar who is a Brit from London and long time resident in the States who used to play with 1990s band Quite Sane and with Robert Mitchell and Julie Dexter in the acclaimed J-Life; and Sean Rickman, drums. Released on 10 August.
