Kris Davis certainly has a growing fanbase among avant jazz fans. You may remember the pianist from Sugar Blade, Stephen Davis’ excellent trio album from last year.
Late-September sees the highest profile release to date by the Canadian with the release of Duopoly, a collection of duos featuring eight stellar playing partners for Davis including Craig Taborn, above on Fox Fire, Julian Lage, Tim Berne and Bill Frisell. The CD is also issued with a DVD.
There are five Davis originals as well as two standards included, one of which features Don Byron on Ellington’s ‘Prelude to a Kiss.’
