Emergence is a new EP just released written and led by Phil Merriman on piano and synths.

Described as “Beats meet Bartók and synths meet strings” the music draws on influences from Jazz and R&B to Classical and Indian music and features a personnel including Aref Durvesh, Nadim Teimoori, Raph Clarkson, Gustav Clarkson, Paul Kimber and Jon Ormston.

Merriman’s – a past student of the late John Taylor at the University of York – has compositional influences on the jazz side that also include Derrick Hodge, Gerald Clayton and Robert Glasper.
