Danish singer-songwriter/guitarist Mette Juul – think an expressively creative voice steeped in vocal-jazz traditions landing somewhere between the sound of Anna Maria Jopek and Silje Nergaard – has a fine new album to be released next month. Extracts from the Universal Denmark release are above.

Arriving three years on from Moon on My Shoulder the singer’s band proves a good match for her quietly compelling vocals.

Ambrose Akinmusire who collaborated with the singer on her previous album returns and is heard here beautifully Milesian on opener ‘Baltimore’. The band also comprises Danish pianist and album co-producer Nikolaj Hess, Charles Lloyd bassist Joe Sanders, Oracle electric guitarist Mike Moreno on three tracks and drummer Rodney Green.

There is a Song features mainly Juul originals plus a version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘The Land of Plenty’ and AC Jobim’s ‘Double Rainbow.’
