Look out for the release of Treehouse in October, the debut of the Tom Hewson trio.

Issued by Italian label Camjazz it finds the pianist, a former Oxford University and Trinity Laban student who won the Nottingham international jazz piano competition last year, performing his original compositions with Scottish National Jazz Orchestra bassist Calum Gourlay and vibist Lewis Wright, best known for his work in Empirical. You can listen to extracts from Treehouse above.

Hewson is among an array of pianists who pay tribute to the late John Taylor at the Piano Summit concert to be held in the South Bank Centre’s Purcell Room on 9 September.
