Billy Hart

Early-March new jazz album highlights include the second ECM album by the Billy Hart Quartet.

One Is the Other comes three years on from All Our Reasons where the Washington DC-born 73-year-old drum master Billy Hart, whose distinguished career has included significant periods in earlier parts of his career in the bands of Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, and Herbie Hancock, is once again joined by pianist Ethan Iverson of The Bad Plus, bassist Ben Street (Danilo Pérez, Tomasz Stańko) and saxophonist Mark Turner (Fly trio). This latest album was recorded in New York last year, produced by Manfred Eicher, and is ostensibly a set of originals plus the standard ‘Some Enchanted Evening’, a Rodgers and Hammerstein song from South Pacific. The album is released on 3 March.
