First cover to appear on new Mary Halvorson album
Mary Halvorson is to release Illusionary Sea in September, an album that includes new material and a tribute to Robert Wyatt, the first cover to appear on any of the avant garde guitarist’s albums as leader to date, her label Firehouse 12 says. The fourth outing to appear on the US indie following last year’s Bending Bridges, Saturn Sings from two years earlier, and Dragon’s Head from 2008, Halvorson on Illusionary Sea following advice taken from Anthony Braxton to extend her ensemble adds saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock who she's recently played London and Belfast dates with plus trombonist Jacob Garchik to her quintet of Sicilian Defense trumpeter Jonathan Finlayson, Mostly Other People Do The Killing’s Jon Irabagon, bassist John Hébert, and drummer Ches Smith. The album as well as being available for download and on CD will also be issued on vinyl. The Wyatt tribute is an arrangement of the source for ‘Maryan’ ('Nairam' by Philip Catherine), which appeared on Wyatt's 1997 album, Shleep.
