A trip down memory lane for sentimental Danes certainly, there is plenty in its favour here: some sumptuous solos by Stan Getz (‘I Remember Clifford’ the pick) certainly and the fairly rare sighting in Denmark of the now highly cult Swedish pianist Jan Johansson.

Oscar Pettiford plays beautifully and you can hear at close hand how much an influence he remains on today’s crop of straightahead players most notably Christian McBride.

Recorded in different Danish tour settings the sound quality isn’t always drop dead gorgeous but is certainly serviceable enough (turn it up or play the disc on the best piece of audio kit in your house for best results).

Issued with interesting notes and lots of photos the album will be cherished most in Scandinavia but there’s more than enough here for fans of swinging jazz anywhere.

UK release is 9 September
