The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) is to present a Gold Badge award to trumpeter, arranger, bandleader and composer Guy Barker at a ceremony in the Savoy in London next month. Barker's award is sponsored by the Musicians' Union and is presented as part of a 40th anniversary awards event this year held in association with PRS for Music. Other recipients are Roger Dean, Don Letts, Jane Manning OBE, Stephen Navin, John Scott, Bonnie Tyler, Mike Vernon, Johnnie Walker MBE, Alison Wenham OBE, James Wyllie, and Bill Wyman. Earlier this year Guy Barker’s latest Britten and Henry James-inspired work That Obscure Hurt featuring Kurt Elling, symphony orchestra and big band, was broadcast by Radio 3 live at its premiere in Snape Maltings.
