Picking up lots of admiring and respectful interest in the French press at the moment the new album from bassist Henri Texier Sky Dancers is worth seeking out. The video above is a fairly recent live appearance.

More to the point this is a clip from the new album.

With Texier, now 71, the French scene’s Dave Holland and like Holland in terms of stature an icon of jazz beyond national boundaries.

Texier on the album, his first big statement in quite a while, is with Nguyên Lê (guitar), Louis Moutin (drums), François Corneloup (baritone saxophone), the bassist’s son and longtime bandmate Sébastien Texier (alto saxophone, clarinets) and Armel Dupas (piano).
