Sanchez

Pat Metheny Unity Group drummer Antonio Sánchez is to release his fourth solo record, the highly unusual star-studded Three Times Three on long time label Camjazz later this month. Sánchez, commenting on the prospect, says on his website: “I was able to record with some old friends and some new friends that I’ve been a fan of for a long time but that I never quite got to play too much with.”

The concept is three trios each playing three tunes, two originals and a standard, all arranged by the Mexican.

Trio one is Sánchez with Matt Brewer and Brad Mehldau; trio two the prolific drummer, who appeared on the excellent Stories released back in May, with Christian McBride and John Scofield; and the third trio bristling with even more top-flight names, Sánchez joined by Wayne Shorter quartet bassist John Patitucci and the great Joe Lovano. The UK/Ireland release date is 29 September.
