Acoustic alchemy in a certain sense and certainly the playing empathy levels are set sky high. A studio set to complement an earlier live album, Chasing Tales melds overt Metheny-esque sounds courtesy of Oxley and Turko-Latin atmospheres from Meier.

Nothing is impossible in terms of the advanced harmonic intuitive flair the two guitarists display. But there isn’t a huge amount of variety on the album the tunes quite similar to each other particularly in terms of mood, so on the one hand the spell is never broken, on the other it would be interesting to hear more of what these great players are capable of in terms of range. Notwithstanding all this definitely a meeting of hearts and minds aimed at lovers of guitar jazz in all its minutiae. SG
