Since moving to Berlin in 2009 Manchester-born pianist Julie Sassoon, best known for her trio Azilut, here in a set of live recordings made in Cologne, Dessau, and in Berlin during 2012, the impact of her early career in Britain is recalled in the more powerful passages of this welcome solo piano album which also comes issued with a short accompanying DVD. The six tracks exert a considerable power, and yet the effect is almost an iridescence, and certainly a new awakening. SG
