Raising the profile of a new generation of young women playing jazz in the UK, Nérija release a self-titled EP later this week, the style of the band soaked in the heartland sounds of acoustic jazz inspired by the heyday of Blue Note and beyond.
Emerging out of the nurturing environment of Tomorrow’s Warriors, the seven-piece, trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, alto saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi, tenor saxophonist Nubya Garcia, trombonist Rosie Turton, guitarist Shirley Tetteh, bassist Inga Eichler and drummer Lizy Exell, are playing the Marsden Jazz Festival on 8 October among upcoming gigs.
