Lage and Cline

Room is the new ‘no overdub’ two-guitarist duo album dedicated to the late Jim Hall from Wilco’s Nels Cline and guitarist’s guitarist Julian Lage known for his work inside the Gary Burton New Quartet. It’s to be released by Mack Avenue, the label indicates, in late-November.

Cult figure Cline toured in England and Ireland last year with The Veil’s Tim Berne and Jim Black in BB&C, and on his fairly recent album Macroscope, the Nels Cline Singers’ fifth album, sliced and diced Hendrixiana, electronica, bossafied rock ’n’ roll and garage rock in high style.

Cline wields a 1965 Gibson Barney Kessel archtop and a 1962 Gibson J-200 acoustic on Room, while Lage’s axes are a Linda Manzer archtop (the luthier whose instruments Pat Metheny uses), and a 1939 Martin 000-18 acoustic. Tunes include ‘Abstract 12’, ‘Racy’, ‘The Scent Of Light’, and ‘Odd End’. ‘Blues, Too’ was inspired by the late Jim Hall.
